: Directly sow White Icicle radish seeds in rich soil about four weeks before the last expected spring frost. Plant seeds 1/2" deep and 1" apart in well-prepared soil. Once the seedlings emerge, thin them to 2-3" apart or more for larger radishes. For a continuous harvest, sow a new crop every two weeks. Radishes are sensitive to heat, so avoid planting them during the peak of summer. For a fall crop and winter storage, plant approximately two months before the first expected fall frost.
Growing: Radishes thrive in consistently moist soil enriched with organic matter like compost. Keep the soil moist, but be careful not to overwater, as excessive moisture can cause the radishes to split.
Harvesting: White Icicle radishes can be harvested at any size up to their mature length of 5". The flavor is strongest when they are smaller, becoming milder as they mature.
Seed Saving: Radishes cross-pollinate with all other radish varieties, so to maintain genetic purity, isolate them by at least half a mile from other varieties. Allow the plants to fully mature and develop a flowering stalk. The seed pods will change from green to brown when ready. Harvest the brown pods and let them dry for several days. To extract the seeds, open the pods by hand or crush them gently. Store the seeds in a cool, dry place for up to five years.
